Untitled for Now
by Silver-blue

Iruka's fist connected with Kakashi's face, emitting a loud crack and sending the older instructor four steps back; a trail of blood trickling down the corner of his mouth, where he wiped it off with the back of his gloved hand with ease.

"Nice punch for a former chuunin," commented the unmasked silver-haired man, quietly, praising the other man. Starring down at the ground, visible eye droopy, Kakashi sighed to himself. He seemed to always be getting into situations like this. Maybe it was because of bad associations...

Iruka stood stalk still, disbelief written across his face at what he had just done. He trembled in a mixture of fear and satisfaction. He awaited for what the other man would do with such the bold action he just committed. It was going to cost him, especially since he did it in such a public vicinity.

"Except I don't understand,... " Kakashi took a step forward, neck tilted off to the side thinking, "why you hit me?" he questioned, looking back up to face the Academy Teacher; his open blue eye was swallowed in sadness.

Taking another step forward, Kakashi closed the distance between them. He knew he was entering into the younger man's personal space but he no longer cared. The issue needed to be dealt with especially since fist were now involved. He could handle verbal sprawls but it was very unsanctionary for two members of the same village to be fighting with one and the other. He still didn't understand where all this anger was coming from but obviously, he now knew whom it was being directed at and unfortunately that person was him. He couldn't fathom the reason underlining it except maybe for Naruto. The Academy Teacher did care deeply for the boy and it seemed he was in their way of forming a proper bond.

Interest of the dolphin borne.

Stooping over, he took a hold of the fist that the dolphin had deaned worthy enough to hit him with regardless of his high rank with the village. He grasped it firmly in his gloved hand, startling the other.

He wandered, direly what his next line of business should be. By right, he was allowed to punish the man with his forward assault. But death was to harsh for this man. Not that he would ever take the life of the dolphin for such a measly crime as a punch to the face. Which had surprisingly stung. Instead he just marked it off as another dent to his unshakeable pride. Though, he was a bit hurt to cause this kind of malice especially from a man whom everyone in the village considered approachable and amiable to all people regardless of the baggage dragging behind that individuals heals.

Sighing, Kakashi shook his head, chest in distress. His silver spiky locks rocked with the motion and fell gloomily over his uncovered and covered eye, blessingly masking his clouded expression. Underneath the leaf protector band, senses tingling, Kakashi found that the Sharingnan eye had unconsciously narrowed in on the reading of the dolphin's ki signature. With little concentration, he took a peek.

"You two getting married?" came the deep baritone voice of cell 10's instructor, curious.

Kakashi twisted his neck around to peer behind his shoulder to see who was interrupting them. He sighed wearily as he saw who it was. Iruka stood unresponsive.

A slanky dark haired, bearded man with a cigarette daggling from his lips strode up to the duo. He waved shortly, arm raising high to the side of his head where his palm crumpled open in a half hi. He took a welcoming drag from his beat down thin papered wrapped tobacco stick, savoring in the acid taste. Open-toed sandal feet pointed to face the direction of the pair. Stroking his beard in silence, Asuma uncomfortably took the cig from his lips, grabbing the end with his index and middle finger, scissoring it. He then pointed it to the two hands held together.

Kakashi raised a silver eyebrow, puzzled. He than turned his attention back to the dolphin. Realizing what it looked like to the observer's view, he unclasped his hand from atop Iruka's, shoving it deep into his pant pocket. He knew already he wasn't going to hear the end of this, not with that man. He and the crimson teacher were the top gossipers of the Hidden Leaf. As for the dolphin, well,...

Glancing up, the silver-haired jounin in heart pitied the dolphin. Already, the former chuunin's complexion had paled by the bad natured joke.

"So what do I owe for your grand appearance, Asuma?"

"You don't have to butter it up that much," sighed the man, sweeping a hand through his short spiky locks. Rolling his eyes, he brought the thin stick back to his lips and took another inhale. He turned his back to the pair, skimming the streets with his eyes. It was loaded with more people than usual. Must be lunch hour, he thought humorlessly to himself, distantly thinking of his students Choji, Ino, and Shikamaru. A warm smile lifted to his lips. He then turned his attention back to the two teachers.

"Hokage-sama sent word that there's a meeting in the hall. I'm the messenger."

"Did he say what it's about?"

"No... except that all jounin are to report to him immediately or else."

"Hmm,..." thought Kakashi outloud, "It must be serious if he sent you instead of the hawk."

"Well, if your done proposing to each other, you ready to head off?"

Kakashi gave a sharp look to the chuckling man, gloved hand coming out from his pant pocket to swat up at the man's head. Asuma moved away, eyes laughing. He flicked his attention to the dolphin and smiled a strange smile to the younger man.

Kakashi halted in his playful counter-attack, blue eye falling upon the profile of the dolphin. He nervously looked from Asuma to Iruka. He knew what the man was plotting, he could just tell from the look.

Iruka was to busy looking at the ground to notice what was taking place. His ear and neck dyed deep red. He didn't know what to think... he just knew that he now understood what that feeling was that had started to build in his chest as well as cause many sleepless nights that interfered with his everyday life.

Somewhere along the line, he had fallen for Hatake Kakashi, the man he thought he hated but in actuality loved with all of his heart.
