"..." "You're still angry, aren't you," he accused. When Kurama received more silence, he released another sigh, "Regardless that you are or not, we need to do this..." Kurama didn't like that his friend was ignoring him. They had been through so much, since they first became friends. "Hiei, please answer me!" he begged. His eyes roamed over his friend's face but Hiei still remained impersonal towards him. Kurama cast his emerald eyes down in defeat, "I see... so this is how it's going to be from now on, isn't it?" He looked up sharply but was again addressed with his stubborn fire demon friend's silence, "Your quietness..." trailed off Kurama, feeling all the more lonelier, "So be it," he decided, not wanting to stoop himself lower than he has already, if his friend wasn't going to at least acknowledge him. "I won't apologize for my decision or for what I've done, Hiei. Though it is rare for us demons... well, half demon I should more say for myself..." corrected Kurama, letting out a bitter laugh. It was meant to be directed at himself but his laugh seemed to also affect his friend, too. Which way, Kurama wasn't so sure. "Hiei, I would gladly do it again. Everything! Even if my life was sacrificed the second time around. I know this is considered weak for our kind, but I care deeply for my mother. She didn't deserve to die. It wasn't her time and fate was being cruel to her, by thinning it." Kurama thought it all funny in an ironic way. "It's a twist of fate, really. By rights, I shouldn't be talking to you right now...not really," shrugged the red-headed kitsune, "I should be lying dead on the roof top of the hospital until my corpse was found. But the boy, Yuusuke, changed my wish," chuckled Kurama softly, "Even though he didn't know whom I was, regardless that I told him a bit of my past, Yuusuke was still willing to give his life so I could keep mine. I can't understand what for or why...Yuusuke must too have a mother that would miss him... I know mine would but knowing she was alive was enough for me. Dying was even fine with me..." Again no response. "If you would like... you could kill me. Take my life, Hiei. I DID betray you. I deserve it." Kurama slid to his knees right before his standing comrade, his...friend. He took Hiei's hand into his own. So soft. He looked up into the firely demon's blazing ruby eyes expecting to see justification but found nothing. Kurama sighed sadly to himself. I must mean nothing to Hiei to receive no reaction...but he had always thought...he meant something... "Hiei...here..." Kurama took the blade hidden within his friend's sheath and placed it in Hiei's hand, bringing the edge of the blade close to his neck, "Just one stroke is necessary," Kurama's eyes became distant and dreamy, "Actually, just the flick of your wrist, really." A moment went by and Kurama was confused by the lack of action taken against him. "Go on," he commanded. The edge of the sword knicked his throat, as the hand on the hilt, tightened, "Just one slice?" asked the fire demon, in thoughtful consideration. "Yes, it's all that's needed," Kurama added calmly, smiling almost. Seconds ticked by which eventually turned into minutes. Kurama looked questioningly up at Hiei. Emerald eyes shown with confusion and disappointment, angering his fire demon friend greatly. Hiei gritted his teeth. Damn you.... "Damn you, Kurama!!!" "Hn?!" startled the kitsune. Kurama leaned a bit in and in the process, ended up drawing a line of blood from Hiei's sharp blade. "Don't hn...me. Now look what you've done, you stupid fox!" was the koorimes unexpected yet carefully conceded reply, "If I was to kill you. I'd be wiser. I would do so after this little scrimage with that toddler." Oh... Oh!! "Yes, you're right." Kurama found himself saying, agreeing. Hiei took a step back and lowered his sword to his side. He needed to create some distance between them before he lost it. Hiei kept his eyes averted to the side, "I'm not a fool. It's better to have two strong arms instead of one, especially if we have to combat against the four beast lords." "Yes...yes, I see your point." This is a strange turn of events, thought Kurama. "Feh, now I have to reclean my blade," Hiei said, disgusted, trying to change the subject. He looked disdainfully at it. Kurama's blood now marred it. Kurama's... the stupid fox he had befriended years ago... "Huh?" Oh right, my blood... Kurama started to rise from where he was, but decided against it, when he felt his life force trinkle onto his hands. Oh dear, now I'm a mess...I too need to clean up. Kurama startled when he felt a presence near him. It was Hiei. Next, something soft tickled against his injured neck. His emerald eyes fell on it. A white cloth. Kurama flinched back as it was firmly put on his wound, sucessfully keeping the bleeding back to a minimum. The hand that was holding the cloth, stilled, then hesistantly dropped away. Kurama hurridly reached up to keep it in place and winced, when he applied too much pressure. "Stupid fox. You would just sit there dumbly while you bled to death. Pitiful." went off Hiei and this time, he went and sat on a boulder by the flowing stream. He took great care and began to thoroughly clean his blade. Time continued to go bye, until Hiei's deep baritone voice broke it. "Tell me," asked Hiei, "Will the boy be there as well?" He had an inkling he would but he wanted to know for sure if he was correct in his assumption. "Oh yes, as well as his friend, I believe," replied Kurama, dazed, "A tall fellow, whom can pick up spirit energy very well and I've heard can fight too. Yuusuke's friend could prove very useful." he added in, just to be safe. Hiei was a bit picky with whom he worked with, when he had to. When... then does that mean, I was just a tool for Hiei's use? "Figures. Anyone else?" replied Hiei, unknowingly, breaking his turbulent thoughts. "No...it'll just be us four." Kurama said, slowly, "The situation is a bit tight, up there." "Hn, no wonder, with a toddler running the place." "No..no it isn't Koenma's fault. Regardless of what it seems, Koenma is 700 yrs old. He actually does a well job, considering... --" "No excuses need to be made. Besides, I'd rather get this over with. Where do we meet the two humans?" "Hiei..." "You're trying my patience, fox. Where?!" it was no longer a request but a command from Hiei. "There's a portal not to far away. We will be taking that. Then the portal will take us to the Mekiai lands, where the others are waiting for us." "Fine, let's go." "After you." "Che, whatever stupid fox." As they raced to their destination, Kurama thought about what he said and realized he never got a chance to tell how he felt about the young fire demon, "Hiei, Hiei...I" "What now?!" growled Hiei, his patience warring thin. "I'm sorry that I hurt you in the process. But I meant what I said. So...when this assignment is done, do what you would like with me, Hiei. It doesn't matter anymore to me." "Hmph, whatever," muttered Hiei silently and left it at that.
